Can a European Union that is the first to renounce economic growth still be a global player? In a transnational webinar, we explored the tensions and synergies between post-growth and geopolitics.
This webinar took place on 8 September 2023. It was part of the Green European Foundation's transnational project Geopolitics of a Post-Growth Europe. This project aims to start a conversation between critics of economic growth and geopolitical thinkers, who now often operate in separate circuits.
The webinar was moderated by Judith Sargentini. It kicked off with an introduction by project leader Richard Wouters (Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks). In a presentation, Sophie Bloemen (Commons Network) made the case for degrowth and global public goods. Roderick Kefferpütz (Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung EU) asked some uneasy questions about (de)growth and geopolitics. A lively discussion ensued.
